Uniting the Team Through a Rebrand

Before & After

Redesigning screens during the rebrand improved our member experience without changing functionality.

Making the most important part of the screen larger to draw members’ eyes there first. Replaced all of the stock photography with our own in-house content. Combined screens in the navigation and de-emphasized unpaid features.

I approached this screen as if a coach was talking to the user. The way a coach would describe a set is: “For our main set we are going to do 4x50s kick on 1:40. This is a moderate effort level. You can either kick with a board or kick on your back. Any questions?” If a member were to join a team, they would not be lost when a coach would describe a set.

In the previous design, many things were hidden behind other screens. In the new design, all the information is brought forward, making it easy to see what capabilities ‘Building a Set’ has to offer.

Our workouts are personalized to each member by best times. Depending on the effort level, goals and interval times change. Knowing the goal time is crucial to hitting a personal best time. I re-organized information for quicker and easier understanding as well as removed the set bars so users can see all the goals they should be hitting. Enlarged content to allow members to better educate themselves.

Prior to the update, the workout summary screen was all over the place. I organized the screen, simplified the design, and fixed the hierarchy, making it easier for the member to understand what information is provided and quickly find what they needed.

Animation

I use animation to better explain to the engineering team how a screen should animate.

Simple animation to get members excited about the personalized plan we’re building using the information they gave us in onboarding.

We call this screen the transformation screen. After members go through onboarding using their times they’ve imputed we show them how much faster they could be using our app.
